Scholarships Available Through Regional Community Foundations
 
Most scholarships require students to attend an accredited postsecondary institution on a full-time basis, and maintain primary residency in their home county. Many are designated for seniors or recent graduates of specific high schools within the county. However, there are numerous exceptions, including scholarships for adult and/or graduate students. With noted exceptions, there is a common scholarship application for each foundation.
The Richland County Foundation has more than 50 scholarship funds. Deadline is April 1.
 
The Marion Community Foundation has over 30 scholarship funds. Application deadline is March 18.
 
The Ashland County Community Foundation offers more than 80 unique scholarships, The application deadline is April 15. A no-interest education loan fund is also available, with application deadline of June 15.
 
The Tiffin Charitable Foundation manages nearly a dozen scholarship funds. Not all applications are available online. Deadlines vary.
 
The Bucyrus Area Community Foundation manages six scholarships, with most deadlines due April 1.
 
The Community Foundation of Lorain County manages a limited number of scholarships for Huron County residents. Application deadline is February 10.

American Opportunity Tax Credit. Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), more parents and students will qualify over the next two years for a tax credit, the American Opportunity Credit, to pay for college expenses.
