Health Insurance Options in Ohio. Fact sheet on various options for workers not under an employer-sponsored plan. 

COBRA Health Insurance Continuation Premium Subsidy. Workers who have lost their jobs may qualify for a 65 percent subsidy for COBRA continuation premiums for themselves and their families for up to nine months. The Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) is different from the COBRA Health Insurance Continuation Premium Subsidy. HCTC helps certain trade-affected workers, retirees and their families pay their health insurance premiums.

Mini-COBRA. Ohioans employed by a company with fewer than 20 employees who have lost their job could now secure a federal subsidy up to nine months that may reduce by 65% the cost of their state continuation health coverage, often referred to as mini-COBRA.

Ohio Medicaid is the state umbrella program that provides medical care to low-income individuals and families. Services are accessed with a card issued each month to either the individual or the family. Help Me Grow is Ohio’s birth to 3 system that provides state and federal funds to county Family and Children First Councils to be used in conjunction with state, local and other federal fund to implement and maintain a coordinated, community-based infrastructure that promotes trans-disciplinary, family-centered services for expectant parents, newborns, infants and toddlers and their families.
 
 Healthy Start/Healthy Families. Ohio Medicaid offers two programs for children, families and pregnant women with limited income to get health care. Once eligible for Medicaid, each child (birth through age 20) will have access to an important group of services known as Healthcheck.  
 
Children's Buy-In. The Ohio Department of Job & Family Services started the Children's Buy-In (CBI) program in April to help working parents who are struggling to cover the health care costs of special health needs children. CBI targets working families with income higher than $42,000 per year.
Bureau of Children with Medical Handicaps. The Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH) is a health care program in the Ohio Department of Health  (ODH).  BCMH links families of children with special health care needs to a network of quality providers and helps families obtain payment for the services their children need.

Take-care-health. Walgreens and Take Care Health Systems are offering an initiative to offer free health care services, for minor conditions, to all of its current and future patients who lose their jobs after March 31 and have no health insurance.   Spouses, domestic partners and children also qualify if they do not have their own health insurance.
