
Marion Technical College to Launch Distance Health Information Technology Program
Marion Technical College has receieved approval to offer a Health Information Technology associate degree program in Fall 2009 that will largely be offered in an online format. A Health Information Technician (HIT) focuses on the management of healthcare data. They are responsible for maintaining components of health information systems consistent with the medical, administrative, ethical, legal, accreditation, and regulatory requirements of the health care delivery system. The health information technician must collect, integrate, and analyze primary and secondary health care data; disseminate information and manage information resources related to the research, planning, provision, payment and evaluation of healthcare services. Tri-Rivers Career Center to Launch LPN to RN Diploma Program
The Ohio Board of Nursing has approved Tri-Rivers Career Center in Marion to offer a LPN-to-RN diploma program. It is one of the first adult career centers in Ohio to offer such a program. As labor market information shows a greater need for Registered Nurses (at least associate degree) than licensed practical nurses (one-year certificate), more institutions are offering special transition programs for LPNs. North Central State to offer Health Services Technology Degree
North Central State College’s has launched a Health Services Technology associate degree program designed for students wanting to be cross-trained in several health care skills. Graduating students will be able to perform more than one health care function in the ever changing health care delivery system. Students will be required to select at least two or more specialized areas beyond the general education requirements and the core health technology courses. Certificates by State, National, and certifying organizations will show competency in the specialized areas, many of which will be delivered by adult career centers and articulated into the degree. Specialty areas include: Bioscience Technician, Community Health Aide, Community Health Worker, Dialysis Technician, Electrocardiography Technologist, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Phlebotomy Technician, State Tested Nurse Assistant, Surgical Technician.
