Directory of veterans services offices Veterans Service Commissions are county agencies dedicated to helping veterans, active duty members of the Armed Forces of the United States, and their dependents. There are several distinct services generally provided:
· Short term emergency financial assistance to eligible veterans with a discharge under honorable conditions or a recognized service-connected disability, active-duty members of the Armed Forces of the United States, Reserve and National Guard members who are called to active duty by a Presidential Order (such as Desert Storm Operation Enduring Freedom), and their dependents.Advice and assistance when applying for claims, benefits or entitlements from federal, state, or local agencies.
· Our Veterans Benefits Specialist act as the veteran’s liaison to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
· Provide assistance up to $1,000.00 to help defray the necessary funeral expenses for the burial of a veteran and the cost of mounting the government marker.
· Employment assistance in coordination with a Veterans Employment Representative from the Department of Job and Family Services.

Ohio GI Promise The Ohio GI Promise was created by Gov. Ted Strickland by Executive Order 2008-17S on July 8, 2008. Together with the creation of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services on May 23, 2008 and the signing of the Post 9-11 GI Bill on June 30, 2008, it represented the most significant expansion of benefits and services for veterans in Ohio since the end of the Second World War.

Troops to Teachers was established in 1994 to help recruit quality teachers that serve students in high-need schools throughout America. TTT helps relieve teacher shortages, especially in math, science, special education and other critical subject areas, and assists military personnel in making successful transitions to second careers in teaching. Federal funding may be provided to eligible individuals as stipends up to $5,000 to help pay for teacher certification costs or as bonuses of $10,000 to teach in a high-need school.
Ohio National Guard Scholarship Program Subject to funding available from the Ohio General Assembly the program provides 100 percent tuition to Army and Air Guard members attending a two- or four- year public college or university. An equivalent amount that is the average state university tuition charge can be applied toward the costs at a private, proprietary institution.
Job Skills Training – Ohio Department of AMVETS. AMVETS Career Centers, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation that provides career, training and employment assistance for veterans, active duty service members and members of the National Guard and Reserves who have served America honorably. There are over 60 local career centers throughout Ohio, located in AMVETS posts, VA hospitals, One-Stop Employment Centers and Veterans Service Commission offices that are available to help you with your career transition. The Ohio War Orphans Scholarship Program awards tuition assistance to the children of deceased or severely disabled Ohio veterans who served in the armed forces during a period of declared war or conflict.
American Legion American Legacy Scholarship Child/Children, or legally adopted child/children, of active duty United States military and Guard, and Reserve personnel who were federalized and died on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. Must be a high school senior or high school graduate to apply for the scholarship. Scholarship is for undergraduate study at a U.S. school of higher education.

Includes a military skills translator where you can use your Military Occupation Classification (MOC) to identify similar occupations in the civilian workforce you may be qualified for.
Helmets to Hardhatsis a national program that connects National Guard, Reserve and transitioning active-duty military members with quality career training and employment opportunities within the construction industry.
The Recovery and Employment Assistance Lifelines(REALifelines) Advisor provides veterans and transitioning service members wounded and injured as a result of the War on Terrorism, and their family members, with the resources they need to successfully transition to a rewarding career. While this site is intended for use by wounded and injured transitioning service members, it offers extensive information and resources that can benefit all veterans.
